Only 2% of an estimated 40,000 cycles stolen in London each year are ever recovered.
Cycle theft is often tied to criminal gangs and many people whose bikes are stolen stop cycling. Yet cycle theft isn’t impossible to fix – other countries are doing far better than us on beating the thieves, as are other police forces outside London.
Please join us in asking the government, Mayor, cycle industry and particularly the Met Police to get serious on cycle theft.
We're calling on the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime, and the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, to implement the recommendations from LCC's cycle theft report and cut cycle theft by 10% every year.
The Mayor of London has done this in the past successfully. And it’s time overdue to do it again. On top of that, we want the Met, the Mayor, government, Network Rail, London’s Councils and the cycle industry to commit to implementing all of LCC’s recommended actions from its Broken Locks, Broken Promises report. Please sign the petition today and we’ll pass on your support for this too.
