Last term, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan delivered a London-wide ULEZ, massive expansion of cycle tracks and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods, and improved lorry safety, but millions of Londoners who want to cycle still can't – because their streets are still too dangerous; they still feel too vulnerable; or they can’t access a bike. This term so far, he’s opened the Silvertown Tunnel and has a plan for Oxford Street that’s years away.
Come on, Sadiq, dream bigger!
It’s time for the Mayor to dare to dream bigger, to leave a lasting legacy in London. Does he want to be remembered for a shuttle bus that can only take eight bikes in a road tunnel? To leave London in Paris’ shadow? Or does he want a real legacy?
LCC worked with a brains trust of London experts to come up with four big ideas for Sadiq that can help make London a truly cycling and people-friendly city. Ask him to commit to them today...
- Car free Sundays - car-free streets every month through spring and summer, across London.
- A bike for every Londoner – not everyone can buy or store a cycle, so remove such barriers for every Londoner.
- Family-friendly cycling in outer London – fund high-quality outer London town centre schemes for walking, scooting & cycling.
- Low traffic West End – cut motor traffic across the west end, beyond Oxford Street pedestrianisation and get ahead of Paris!
