Junctions are where the majority of serious collisions happen. Sometimes junctions are so hostile they act as a barrier to people cycling in and around a whole area.

We’re calling on the Mayor and Transport for London to deliver rapid improvements to make London's most dangerous junctions safer for cycling.

When junctions are made safe the payback is huge – it unlocks miles of new cycle routes and make cycling, walking and wheeling safer for thousands of people. Fixing junctions is one of the most important things we can do to make cycling in London safer.

  To: Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan and Commissioner of Transport for London, Andy Lord,

  Please take urgent action to make London's most Dangerous Junctions safe for walking, cycling and wheeling.

  Junctions are where almost all cyclist fatalities happen. Many have been known to be dangerous for years without action being taken.

  These dangerous junctions represent a significant barrier to the Mayor’s #VisionZero target. In order to meet this goal whilst enabling more sustainable journeys, we ask that you commit to the following at junctions London Cycling Campaign has identified as being too dangerous for walking and cycling:

  • Rapid temporary junction improvements, creating new safe space for cycling,
  • Follow up with permanent changes that remove all critical safety failures,
  • Put safety of pedestrians and vulnerable road users first over convenience of motor vehicles.

   

  We ask that you begin this work now and publish plans that show you can deliver all the improvements needed by 2030.

   

We’ve mapped the most dangerous junctions for people walking and cycling across the whole of London. We’ve also published a report on how to improve junctions quickly and cheaply.

We want rapid temporary junction improvements now, followed by a programme of permanent changes that comprehensively remove all critical safety failures.
